Am Ortsrand von Calgary liegt der Canada Olympic Park, wo 1988 die
olympischen Winterspiele stattfanden. Heute hat der Park eine Menge zu bieten. Im Winter
surren einige Lifte auf dem "Ski Hill" und man kann auch auf der Bobbahn einige
Fahrten wagen oder eine geführte Tour durch das Gelände machen (Sprungschanze, Bobbahn,
Hall of Fame, Museum). Fährt man mit einem der Sesselbahnen den "Ski Hill"
hinauf hat man einen herrlichen Blick hinüber auf die kanadischen Rockies
(nur am Tag). Vom Gipfel
kann man auch einen Blick, vorbei an der olympischen Schanze, auf die Innenstadt von
Calgary werfen. Die Abfahrten sind meist leicht bis mittelschwer und etwa 500m lang. Auf
der rechten Seite des Skihügels befindet sich auch eine Halfpipe für Snowboarder. Der
Skibetrieb ist dank modernster Beschneiungsanlagen schon ab Anfang November
möglich. Der Skibetrieb läuft unter der Woche bis 21 Uhr und am
Wochenende bis 17.00 Uhr und zieht viele Besucher aus Calgary an, die
einfach ein paar Schwünge machen möchten.
Sobald es dunkel wird werden die Scheinwerfer eingestellt und das Nachtskifahren
kann beginnen. Man hat einen herrlichen Blick über die hell erleuchtete Stadt. Auch die
Skyline von Downtown Calgary ist hervorragend zu sehen. Es wird hier sehr
auf Gesundheit geachtet und deshalb ist auf dem gesamten "Ski
Hill" auch Rauchverbot.
At the edge of Calgary you will find the Canada Olympic Park, where the
Olympics 1988 took place. Today you can take a tour around the park (Ski Jump Tower,
Bobsleigh/Luge Track, Hall of Fame, Museum), public rides on the bobsleigh track, or you
can ski the hill. If you take one of the chair lifts up to the hill you have a great view
to the Canadian Rockies (during the day only). At the top you can take a look to downtown Calgary. The slopes
are easy to intermediate and about 500m long. At the right side of the ski hill you will
find a halfpipe and funpark, especially for snowboarders. Because of the snow canyons you can ski from
early November at this ski hill. The ski hill is open during the week till 9
p.m. and on the weekand till 5 p.m. and a lot of Calgarians come after
work to the park for skiing and riding. If it gets dark you can ski and ride with a wounderful
view to Calgary. You can see the skyline from downtown Calgary, too. The COP
looks for your well-beeing and so the park is a no smoking zone. |
