| Von Banff aus sind es ca. 10 Minuten bis zum Mount Norquay, dem
Hausberg von Banff und das älteste Skigebiet Kanada´s. Könner lieben dieses Skigebiet,
da man dort auf steilen Waldschneisenabfahrten und steilen Buckelpisten seine
Schwünge
machen kann und man sieht auch ab und zu das eine oder andere Wildtier am
Pistenrand. Vom Parkplatz und der Cascade Lodge aus starten die Vierersesselbahn Cascade
und parallel dazu der kurze Magic Carpet zu sehr leichten Abfahrten, speziell für
Anfänger. Hier befindet sich auch der sehr schön angelegte Snowboard Park.
Könner
lieben die North American Doppelsesselbahn,
die sie zu den steilsten Abfahrten des
Gebietes
bringt. Hier startet auch die Gun-Run, die steilste Abfahrt Kanada´s. Von der Bergstation
der Cascade Vierersesselbahn kann man man weiter hinüber zur Spirit Vierersesselbahn
schwingen. Die Abfahrten an diesem Lift sind mittelschwer. Von hier kann man zum letzten
Lift, einer kuppelbaren Vierersesselbahn, dem Mystic
Express fahren. Hier sind die
Abfahrten meist schwer bis mittel und führen durch Waldschneisen zur
Talstation. Um wieder zurück zur Cascade Lodge und den Parkplätzen zu gelangen nimmt man am besten wieder die Spirit Vierersesselbahn und biegt
dann beim Ausstieg links ab. Es gibt auch eine Abfahrt hinunter zum
Timberline Inn am Trans Canada Highway 1, die aber nicht präpariert wird
und nur bei guten Schneeverhältnissen zu befahren ist - man sollte aber
jemanden haben der einen dann am Ende der Abfahrt abholt, da von dort kein
Lift mehr fährt. Zum Einkehren stehen die Old Norquay Lodge und die
Cascade Lodge an den Talstationen zur Verfügung. From Banff you have an approx. 10 minutes ride up to Mount Norquay, the oldest ski resort in Canada. Advanced skiers and riders love this resort, because you find many steep mogul runs and many steep runs through the forest and sometimes you can watch wildlife at the edge of a slope. From the parking lot and the Cascade Lodge you can take the quad Cascade or the magic carpet to very easy runs, especially for beginners. Advanced skiers and riders like the North American double chair, because this lift serves only steep mogul runs. At the top of this lift is the start to the Gun Run, the steepest run in Canada. From the top of the Cascade quad you can ski or ride to the Spirit quad. The slopes on this lift are intermediate. Now, you can ski or ride to the last lift, the Mystic Express, a detachable high speed quad. Here the slopes are advanced to intermediate. To go back to the parking lots and the Cascade Lodge you have to take the Spirit quad and you have to turn left at the top. There is another run down to the Timberline Inn at the Trans Canada Highway 1, but please note that this run is not groomed and only open if there is enough snow - but please note that there is no lift up to Mount Norquay. For a break or lunch you can choose between the Old Norquay Lodge or the Cascade Lodge near the base station of the ski lifts. |
