| Zu dem
Skigrossraum Aspen zaehlen die 4 Skigebiete Aspen Mountain,
Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk-Tiehack und Snowmass. Diese Skigebiete sind leider nicht
miteinander verbunden, aber man kann mit seinem Skipass, der in allen 4 Regionen gilt, mit
einem kostenlosen Shuttlebus hin und her fahren... Direkt vom Ort Aspen aus startet die Sechsergondelbahn Silver Queen Gondola direkt hinauf zum Aspen Mountain, auch Ajax genannt. Mittelschwere Abfahrten fuehren hinunter zur kuppelbaren Vierersesselbahn Ajax-Express und zur Vierersesselbahn Gent´s Ridge, die beide wieder nahe der Bergstation der Gondelbahn enden. Koenner werden sich die sehr steilen Abfahrten Walsh´s, Hyrup´s und Kristi hinunterstuerzen, die alle auf einem Ziehweg, der dann zur Gent´s Ridge Vierersesselbahn fuehrt, endet. Tipp: bei der Walsh´s Abfahrt muss man ein Stueck den Ziehweg bergauf laufen! Faehrt man am Ajax-Express talwaerts weiter, so gelangt man ueber eine mittelschwere Abfahrt nach Aspen. Auf dem Weg passiert man auch die Doppelsesselbahn FIS, die einen zu den Pisten am Ruthie´s Lift, einer kuppelbaren Doppelsesselbahn bringt. Von Aspen fuehrt auch die Doppelsesselbahn Shadow Mountain zum Ruthie´s Lift. Mehrere mittelschwere und schwere Abfahrten fuehren zurueck nach Aspen, die dann entweder an der Gondelbahn oder an der Shadow Mountain Doppelsesselbahn enden. Koenner finden von der Bergstation Ruthie´s ueber die Piste International mehr als ein Dutzend "Double Diamond" (sehr schwere) Abfahrten, sowie auch 8 weitere "Double Diamonds" ueber die Abfahrt Gentlemen´s Ridge von der Talstation der Gent´s Ridge Vierersesselbahn. Nach dem Skifahren oder Boarden kann man in Aspen nette Lokale fuer ein gemuetlichen Après-Ski aufsuchen. Am Aspen Mountain gibt es keine leichten Abfahrten. Etwa 8 Meilen von Aspen liegt Snowmass Village, ein sehr netter Ort, eingebettet in den Rockies. Vom Snowmass Village kann man mit der kuppelbaren Sechersesselbahn Village Express und über die Fanny Hill Piste in das Skigebiet einsteigen. Weitere kuppelbare Vierersesselbahnen führen hinauf zu Sam´s Knob, Big Burn, High Alpine und Elk Camp. Die Abfahrten sind alle sehr gut präpariert und fuehren durch breite Waldschneisen zu Tale. Koenner bevorzugen die Doppelsesselbahn High Alpine oder den Tellerlift Cirque bis hinauf auf 3814m, der leider nicht so oft in Betrieb ist. Vom High Alpine fuehren sehr schwere Abfahrten ueber die Hanging Valley Wall und die Hanging Valley Glades hinunter nach Snowmass. Von The Cirque fuehren ebenfalls sehr steile Abfahrten durch Felswaende hinunter. Im ganzen Gebiet sind zahlreiche Lodges zum Einkehren verteilt, sehr zu empfehlen ist das Gordon´s High Alpine. Durch das Snowmass Center und die Wohnhaeuser fuehren eine Dreiersesselbahn und Doppelsesselbahnen mit sehr leichten Abfahrten, so kann man von vielen Punkten in Snowmass in das weitlaeufige Gebiet einsteigen. Nach dem Skifahren oder Boarden laden nette Bars und Restaurants, teilweise mit Live Music in Snowmass Village zum Verweilen ein. Sollten die Lifte am Abend nicht mehr fahren, so ist ganz Snowmass, bis hin zum Snowmass Club mit kostenlosen Village Bussen im 15-Minuten-Takt perfekt erschlossen... Auch nach Aspen und zu den anderen Skigebieten fahren tagsueber kostenlose Shuttlebusse. Ab nächsten Winter gibt es hier auch einen Testbericht von Aspen Highlands und Buttermilk - also immer wieder nachschauen! In Aspen you can ski in four different ski resorts: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk-Tiehack and Snowmass. The ski resorts are all seperate, so you need the shuttlebus (free of charge) to change between the resorts. Directly in Aspen starts the six person gondola Silver Queen up to the Aspen Mountain, also Ajax mentioned. Intermediate runs lead down to the high speed quad Ajax Express and to the quad Gent's Ridge. Both chair lifts end close to the top station of the Silver Queen Gondola. Advanced skiers or riders can take the very steep runs Walsh's, Hyrup's and Kristi, which all end on a skiway, which ends then at the Gent's Ridge quad. Hint: if you take the Walsh's run you have to walk a bit uphill on the skiway! If you ski or ride from the base station of the Ajax Express down to Aspen on intermediate runs, there is the double chair FIS who takes you up to the Ruthie´s lift, a high speed double chair. From Aspen the double chair Shadow Mountain leads to the Ruthie's lift, too. Several intermediate to advanced runs lead back to Aspen, which end then either at the cable car or at the Shadow Mountain double chair. Advanced skiers and riders find more than a dozen of "double diamond" (very heavy and steep) runs from the top station of Ruthie's lift via the slope International, as well as 8 further "doubles of diamond" runs via the run Gentlemen's Ridge near the valley station of the Gent's Ridge quad. After the skiing and riding you can visit nice restaurants in Aspen for a cosy Après ski. At the Aspen Mountain are no easy runs. About 8 miles from Aspen is Snowmass Village, a very nice place, embedded in the Rockies. From the Snowmass Village you can take the high speed six person chair Village Express and the Fanny Hill slope up to the ski area. More high speed quads leads up to Sam's Knob, Big Burn, High Alpine and Elk Camp. All the slopes are very well groomed and lead back to the valley through wide forest aisle slopes. Advanced skiers or riders prefer the double chair High Alpine or the t-bar Cirque up to 3814m, which is not open at all times. From High Alpine you have very steep runs via the Hanging Valley Wall and the Hanging Valley Glades down to Snowmass. From The Cirque lead likewise very steep runs through cliffs down. In the whole area are numerous lodges for a break, much recommended is the Gordon's High Alpine. By the Snowmass Centers and the condominiums lead a triple chair lift and some double chair lifts with very easy slopes, so that you can enter from many points into Snowmass ski area. After the skiing or riding nice bars and restaurants invite you, partly with live music, in Snowmass Village to stay. If the lifts are closed in the late afternoon, then Snowmass is perfect covered with free Village Shuttle Busses every 15 minutes. The busses takes you to your hotel or lodge.in the Snowmass area. To Aspen and to the other ski areas is also a free shuttle bus during the day. From next winter on we will present a test report from Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk, too - keep watching! |
