Highway 35 kann man entweder zur Main Lodge fahren wo ein halbes Dutzend
Lifte starten oder man kann auch in Hood River Meadows parken, von wo man
mit der kuppelbaren Vierersesselbahn Hood River Express auch in das
Skigebiet einsteigen kann. An der Main Lodge erschliessen die drei
Doppelsesselbahnen Easy Rider, Buttercup und Daisy leichte
Anfängerpisten. Mit den kuppelbaren Vierersesselbahnen Vista Express und
Cascade Express kann man direkt hinauf zum höchsten Punkt im Skigebiet
schweben. Die kuppelbare Vierersesselbahn Mt. Hood Express, begleitet von
einer Doppelsesselbahn, befördert die Wintersportler ebenfalls Richtung
Mt. Hood. Von der Bergstation kann man zwischen mehreren leichten bis
schweren Waldabfahrten, oder 6 steilen Bowls (Rinnen), die alle wieder zur
Main Lodge führen, wählen. Weitere Pisten führen hinüber zur
kuppelbaren Vierersesselbahn Shooting Star Express von wo man mehrere
Möglichkeiten hat in den Heather Canyon (Schlucht) zu fahren. Der Heather Canyon ist
nur etwas für Fortgeschrittene und es gibt hier atemberaubende
Tiefschneeabfahrten, die alle an der Talstation der Doppelsesselbahn
Heather Canyon enden. Von der Bergstation der Cascade Vierersesselbahn
zieht einen eine Pistenraupe zum obersten Einstieg in den Heather Canyon.
Es gibt hier so viel freien Skiraum, das man mehrere Tage bräuchte um
jeden Winkel der Schlucht abzufahren. Die Heather Canyon Doppelsesselbahn
bringt einen dann wieder zu den anderen Liften im Skigebiet und man kann
von der Bergstation direkt zur Main Lodge, sowie entlang des Hood River
Expresses über sehr schöne leichte bis mittelschwere Abfahrten (hier ist
alles als Comfort Zone ausgewiesen - kein schnelles Fahren gestattet) zum
Parkplatz in Hood River Meadows abfahren. Das Skigebiet wird sehr gut
durch die 5 kuppelbaren Vierersesselbahnen erschlossen und man kann die
Waldabfahrten geniessen. Zum Einkehren empfehlen wir die Main Lodge, da es
hier auch ein Bedienungsrestaurant mit guten Speisen und Getränken
gibt... From the highway 35 you can drive either to the Main Lodge where half a dozen lifts start or you can park at Hood River Meadows, where the high speed quad Hood River Express take you up to the ski resort. At the Main Lodge the 3 double chair lifts Easy Rider, Buttercup, and Daisy open up easy beginner slopes. With the high speed quads Vista Express and Cascade Express you can lift directly up to the highest point in the ski resort. The high speed quad Mt. Hood Express, accompanied by a double chair, brings the skiers and riders nearer to Mt. Hood. From the top station you can choose between some easy to advanced runs, as well as 6 steep bowls which lead back to the Main Lodge. Via a lot of other slopes you can ski or ride to the high speed quad Shooting Star Express from where you can go into the Heather Canyon. The Heather Canyon is only for advanced skiers and riders and you will find breathtaking runs which end at the double chair Heather Canyon. From the top station of the Cascade high speed quad a snow cat pulls the skiers and riders up to the highest entrance to the Heather Canyon. Here is a lot of free skiing terrain that you need more days to explore the hole canyon. The double chair Heather Canyon takes the athletes back to the other lifts in the resort and you can also go directly back to the Main Lodge or you can ski or ride along the high speed quad Hood River Express via very nice easy to intermediate runs (attention: here is the Comfort Zone - no speed skiing or riding) down to the parking lot at Hood River Meadows. The hole ski resort is very well developed with the 5 high speed quads and you can enjoy a lot of tree runs. For a break or lunch we recommend the Main Lodge, because there is a nice restaurant with service as well as a bar with good food and drinks. |
