| Kurz
nach dem Berthoud Pass, wo sich auch ein kleines Skigebiet mit nur
zwei Sesselbahnen befindet, erreicht man das Winter Park Resort.
Zuerst zweigt die Strasse zur Mary
Jane Base Area ab, dann erreicht man The Village
at Winter Park auf 2743m gelegen. Von hier fuehrt die kuppelbare
Vierersesselbahn Zephyr Express bis hinauf zum Sunspot. Weitere
Bahnen, wie die Arrow
Dreiersesselbahn und die kuppelbare Vierersesselbahn
Gemini Express fuehren ebenfalls ins Skigebiet. Anfänger finden
nahe der Bergstation der beiden
Lifte ein grosses Anfaengergelaende mit weiteren
Sesselbahnen und vielen sehr leichten Abfahrten vor. Mit der
kuppelbaren Vierersesselbahn Eskimo Express gelangt man von hier
ebenfalls ganz hinauf zum Sunspot. Der Prospector express, auch
eine kuppelbare Vierersesselbahn
stellt die Verbindung zum Olympia Express
und Pioneer Express her. Von der Bergstation des Olympia Expresses
kann man entweder zum High
Lonesome Express schwingen um zum Gipfel Mary Jane
zu kommen, oder aber auch zuerst hinunter zur Mary Jane Base Area
und mit dem Summit Express dann
hinauf zur Mary Jane. Die Abfahrten an den
weiten Waldschneisenhängen unterhalb von Mary Jane sind im
Gegensatz zu den Abfahrten am
Olympia- und High Lonesome Express relativ steil.
Könner finden hier auch sehr schwere Abfahrten vor, die zur
Sunnyside-Dreiersesselbahn oder aber auch zur Mary Jane Base Area
führen. Die
Doppelsesselbahn Timberline, von Mary Jane über leichte Pisten zu
erreichen, führt hinauf zur Parsenn Bowl, dem höchsten Punkt im
Skigebiet auf 3676m. Von hier oben kann man zur Vasquez Cirque
queren, wo sich noch viele sehr
schwere unpräparierte Abfahrten befinden oder
man kann durch lichten Wald hinunter zur Sunnyside-Dreiersesselbahn.
Zurück zum The Village of Winter Park gelangt man von Mary Jane
uber einen Ziehweg, den
sogenannten Corridor. An dieser Piste befindet sich
auch das Iron Horse
Resort. Die
Abfahrten in Winter Park, mit Ausnahme im oberen Teil der Parsenn
Bowl, befinden sich alle im Wald, so das man sehr geschützt
Skifahren oder Snowbaorden kann.
Man kann sich auch nicht verfahren, denn die
Abfahrten enden alle entweder in der Mary Jane Base Area, in The
Village at Winter Park oder am
Pioneer Express. Nach dem
Skifahren kann man zum Après-Ski in The Village at Winter Park
noch der Live-Musik lauschen oder aber auch ins knapp 2 Meilen
entfernte Town of Winter Park
fahren (sollte man unbedingt machen) und durch die
netten Geschäfte bummeln oder zum Essen gehen... Winter Park Resort is located only 67 miles west of Denver, off I-70 and on the west side of Berthoud Pass. First the road branches off to the Mary Jane Base Area, then you reach The Village at Winter Park seated at 2743m. From here the high speed quad Zephyr Express takes you up to the Sunspot. More lifts, like the Arrow triple chair and the high speed quad Gemini Express leads into the ski resort, too. Beginners find close of the top station of the two lifts a large beginner area with further chair lifts and many very easy slopes. With the high speed quad Eskimo Express you can ride up to the Sunspot, too. The Prospector Express, also a high speed quad makes the connection to the Olympia Express and the Pioneer Express. From the top station of the Olympia Express you can swing either to the High Lonesome Express to reach the summit Mary Jane directly, or in addition, first ski down to the Mary Jane Base Area and with the Summit Express then up to the Mary Jane. The runs at the wide forest aisle slopes below Mary Jane are relatively steep contrary to the runs at the Olympia and High Lonesome Express. Advanced find here also very steep runs, which lead to the Sunnyside triple chair or in addition, to the Mary Jane Base Area. The double chair Timberline to reach from Mary Jane via easy slopes leads up to the Parsenn Bowl, the highest point in the ski resort on 3676m. From here you can cross to the Vasquez Cirque, where still many very steep ungroomed runs are waiting for advanced skiers, or you can ski down through the trees to the Sunnyside triple chair. Back to the The Village at Winter Park you can take the easy slope "Corridor" from Mary Jane Base Area. On this slope, the Iron Horse Resort is located. The runs in Winter Park, with exception at the top of the Parsenn Bowl, are all in the forest, so you can do very protected skiing or riding. You can´t lose your way, because all runs go down to Mary Jane Base Area/The Village at Winter Park or to the Pioneer Express. After skiing or riding you can listen to live music and enjoy the après ski scene at Derailer Bar at the base of the Winter Park slopes or you can go to the Town of Winter Park, approx. 2 miles from the ski resort. There you will find very nice shops and restaurants... |
